Chance to bid online for bespoke bicycles for Bike Week

Celeb bike auction goes live

The public has the opportunity to get its hands on an exclusive ‘dream bike’, designed by the likes of Sir Alan Sugar and Victoria Pendleton.

An online auction will run until June 16th for the celebrity designed bikes, with the bikes on display at an exclusive exhibition at the London Transport Museum, Covent Garden.

The designs and auction are all in aid of Team Green Britain Bike Week – taking place from June 19th to 27th. Proceeds will be ploughed into three social enterprises.

Chairman of Cycling England Phillip Darnton enthused: “These dream bikes have been brought to life with a mixture of old and new bicycle parts and they all look fantastic. We want everyone to be inspired by them, dig out their own old bikes from the shed or garage and bring them along to one of the thousands of Team Green Britain Bike Week events all over the UK for a new lease of life.”

Victoria Pendleton said: “My dream bicycle is inspired by my role as a Team Green Britain Ambassador for EDF Energy. It’s sleek, green and made to cycle every day. If everyone were to swap one car journey a day for a bike trip, think of the collective benefit – to our planet, our pockets and our health! I hope people come along to see all the bicycles and dig deep to raise money for the social enterprises who created them.”

EDF Energy COO Eva Eisenschimmel said: “As Britain’s largest producer of low-carbon electricity, we’re proud to be able to support Team Green Britain Bike Week. Cycling can be a practical lifestyle choice which can help to lower our own carbon footprints, while exercising and saving both time and money.”
