Gorski, a gold medal-winning cyclist in the 1984 Olympic Games, joined Tailwind Sports, formerly known as Montgomery Sports, in 1995 and was responsible for signing the USPS as the title sponsor of Montgomery's professional cycling team.
Over the last eight years, Gorski has secured sponsorship for the team from the likes of the Berry Group, Thomas Weisel Partners, Visa, Yahoo!, Trek Bicycle Corp., and Nike.
"It is with a mixture of sadness, satisfaction and new opportunity that I announce my resignation," said Gorski.
"After many months of consideration, I decided that it was best for me personally, professionally and most importantly, for my family, to step down.
"I have made this decision and taken this step with the knowledge and confidence that Tailwind Sports is in a very strong and solid position, in terms of the team members, its key sponsors, management and staff and Board of Directors and Board of Advisors."
Dan Osipow, currently a vice president of Tailwind Sports and the cycling team's director of operations, will become Tailwind's interim general manager.
"I am extremely proud of what we have accomplished over the last eight years with the team, not only competitively but on behalf of all of our sponsors in helping them to attain their business objectives," said Gorski.
"Lance Armstrong and the team’s success at the Tour de France since 1999 has been very satisfying and fulfilling, personally and professionally. To have helped Thom Weisel, Johan Bruyneel, Lance and the rest of the team attain such an incredible level of success makes me feel very fortunate."
