Cicerone has announced the release of a new mountain bike specific guidebook.

The book describes 25 of the best mountain biking routes in the West and North West Highlands, from the shadowy footsteps of the UK’s highest mountain to the majesty of the remote Outer Hebrides.

The routes, which range from 19.5km to 73.25km are graded from moderate to very hard – suitable for bikers with a good level of fitness and experience. Covering a large geographical area, including Fort William, Rannoch Moor, Glen Spean, Ben Nevis, Sutherland, Torridon and Skye, the selected routes give a real flavour of the variety of different bike riding available. The routes also showcase the stunning mountain scenery of Scotland’s wild West and North West, making for truly magical days in the saddle.

Turn-by-turn route descriptions are accompanied by 1:50,000 OS mapping, a gradient profile of the route and key information such as grade, distance, terrain, ascent, and the nearest pub or cafe. Also included is advice on equipment, planning and preparation, and bike maintenance.
