There's nothing like a 'closing down sale' to drum up business, as Woolworths experienced recently.

Condor Cycles of London has been attracting plenty of passing trade with its 'closing down' signs.

But fret not, the shop founded by Monty Young in 1948, is not closing down. In fact, it's expanding.

Monty's son, Grant Young, told BikeBiz the sign has had a big impact:

"We've had people coming in offering their commiserations," he said.

"We point them to the small print in the window which says 'Don't panic, it's due to refurbishment'."

Premises next door to Condor's Grays Inn Road store came available last year and Grant Young snapped them up. Condor Cycles will soon be 25 percent bigger.

Before Christmas, the premises were used for the Rapha/Rouleur photography exhibition.

The pink on the window signage ties up with the pink used by the Rapha-Condor cycling team.
