Reports have emerged that local councillors have vetoed the building of the UK’s first Oxylane sports village (ThisisNottingham.co.uk).
Decathlon-owner Oxylane’s sports village was to be the first of many for Britain, where customers would be able to try out sports equipment – including bikes – before they bought them from an on-site Decathlon store. France has ten Oxylane villages.
However, the first – proposed for Broxtowe, Nottinghamshire – has been rejected following concerns about building on green belt land and doubts over its benefits.
The Eastwood Advertiser said the Village was outvoted five to six, following the advice of planning officers.
Will the giant French sports company be deterred by the news? Probably not. If it doesn’t appeal the decision, then it’s surely a question of where else Oxylane has lined up for its first UK sports village.
