With an estimated $40 made for local economy when Crankworx hits town - could we use knowledge to develop UK mountain biking?

Crankworx manager to speak at Scottish IMB conference

The manager of the world’s largest cycling festival is set to speak at this year’s International Mountain Biking Conference in Peebles, Scotland.

Darren Kinnaird, general manager of CrankWorx – the US mountain biking festival worth over $40 million to the local economy and drawing over 140,000 visitors – is to host a presentation and Q&A session during the three day programme.

Running November 11th to 13th, the International Mountain Biking conference will play host to many more big names from the worldwide mountain biking scene. It is hoped the three day event will see the sector’s main advocates and businesses share expertise, exchange ideas and learn from one another.

Darren, in particular, will be talking about the development and key successes from the Crankworx festival including the key partnerships involved in promoting a complete destination, how they have promoted Whistler as a complete brand and how they have successfully engaged the community in developing the Crankworx/Whistler brand.

“Festivals and events are a great way to tell a story of the experiences and products a destination has to offer," said Kinnaird.

"Crankworx has provided us the opportunity to share with the World all that Whistler has to offer as a mountain biking destination, turning a previously quieter period of the calendar into one of the busiest of the entire year.”

The three-day event, to be held at Peebles Hydro in the Tweed Valley, will have a ‘Participation & Sport’ focus on the first day and a ‘Tourism & Economic Development’ focus on the second day. The final day will feature a selection of field visits showcasing good practice from across Scotland.

Delegates can attend the conference on selected days, or for the whole three-day event. Booking closes on Friday 7th November.
