Geffen has with 13 years experience of transport planning and campaigning in the public, private and voluntary sectors. Much of his professional and campaigning work has been

concerned with cycling and walking issues.

Geffen's first campaigning experience was with the London Cycling Campaign in the late 1980s representing the LCC at a public enquiry and on the Oxleas Alliance, a group of environmental organisations whose protests scuppered plans for a major new road through Oxleas Wood ten years ago.

He also initiated the LCC's involvement in European Car Free Day, was involved in the No M11 Link campaign and, more recently, worked on Transport 2000's Streets for People project.

Geffen, 36, gained a Masters in Transport from London University and subsequently worked for Oxfordshire County Council where his responsibilities included the county's walking and cycling strategies, its local transport plan and the development of home zones. He has also lectured on transport at South Bank University. Geffen is currently a senior consultant for Steer Davies Gleave transport consultancy where he has worked on a range of walking, cycling, public transport and traffic management projects.

"Promoting cycling as part of a genuinely sustainable transport policy is a major challenge for the years ahead. I am looking forward to that challenge with relish," said Geffen

CTC Director Kevin Mayne welcomed the appointment: "Roger has an excellent range of

experience from direct action to local authority and consultancy work. He has a very good grasp of the different ways of campaigning and gaining influence and a long term interest in cycling and transport campaigning."

Richard Thomas, acting campaigns and policy manager, will combine transport campaign work for CTC with his commitments as a Liberal Democrat councillor.
