CTC gets behind posties on bikes

The CTC is rallying the efforts of opponents of the Royal Mail’s plans to get postmen and women off bicycles.

The campaigning body is urging the public to write to the Royal Mail’s new chief exec Moya Greene by filling out a form on the CTC’s site. The letters will then be collected and sent to the Royal Mail’s headquarters – delivered by cargo bike, naturally.

Greene’s predecessor Adam Crozier, first revealed the plans to scrap bikes for posties due to ‘safety concerns‘ and the ‘changing nature of postal deliveries’ and growth of internet retail.

The CTC has taken issue with the claims behind the decision to cull bikes for posties, blasting safety worries as untrue. The organisation also said that increasing weights of postal deliveries are easily handled on cargo bicycles and tricycles as in other European countries and also by courier companies in Britian, such as DHL and FedEx.

The CTC has also gathered a number of testimonials from posties in the UK that want to keep using bicycles for deliveries.
