Barnardo’s big bike ride – from Holyhead to Barkingside – will take place between October 14th and 18th, 2016. The charity is encouraging cycling enthusiasts to take part in an exclusive 362-mile bike ride, which will mark their 150th anniversary and raise funds for some of the UK’s most vulnerable children. The bike ride offers up to 50 cyclists the unique opportunity to follow the tracks of Barnardo’s pioneering founder.

In 1866, aged twenty-one, Thomas Barnardo sailed from Dublin to Holyhead then travelled on land to London. Upon seeing the poverty and destitution in Victorian London, he decided to stay to help vulnerable children. Starting off in Holyhead, Anglesey, cyclists will pedal through the stunning Welsh and English countryside, finishing up on day five at Barnardo’s Village in Barkingside, Essex.

Along the route, participants will be visiting Barnardo’s services and stores to see first-hand how the charity supports some of the most disadvantaged children and families in the UK.

According to Barnardo’s chief executive Javed Khan: “All the money raised through this epic cycling challenge will support the serious work we do helping children and families accelerate to a brighter future, now and always.”

Participants are asked to raise at least £2,150 for the charity, with the support of the events team. Hotel accommodation, lunch, refreshments and expert support will be provided.

An early bird discount on the registration fee is available until July 10th. To sign up or find out more, visit here or call 020 8498 7091.
