British Cycling has confirmed that the 2010 Dalby UCI Mountain Bike Cross-Country World Cup will go ahead as planned – despite the ongoing closure of the UK’s airports.
As with many other European countries, the UK has been ‘grounded’ with passenger flights banned from taking off or landing in the country, following the eruption of a volcano in Iceland. The eruption has pushed volcanic ash into the sky, which is potentially harmful to planes using jet engines.
The Dalby-set World Cup, taking place April 23rd to 25th, is set to carry on as planned, despite the flight ban. The event will remain a full point scoring round for the overall World Cup standings.
Teams are being encouraged by the UCI to make every effort to get to Dalby Forest in time for Friday’s official training.
Riders from Australia and Canada have already arrived in Yorkshire, with more expected to arrive in the coming days. British Cycling has reached an agreement with P&O Ferries to ensure travel requirements for teams in Europe are prioritised ahead of other travellers.
