Bike industry supported 'normalise cycling' campaign buys more Dutch bikes; seeks paid promo officer

Darlovelo expands

Darlovelo, an offshoot charitable concern from Darlington Cycling Campaign, is expanding, partly with cash supplied by the New Ideas Fund, the ‘get more people cycling’ scheme run by the Bike Hub levy fund. Almost all UK cycle businesses pay into this market-expanding levy fund.

Darlovelo is a city bicycle sharing scheme for Darlington. It makes stylish Dutch bikes available for use by Darlington residents, especially young women, who are usually lost to cycling by their teens.

Residents pay a small deposit, and a weekly hire charge of £5 to use the bikes. Bike Hub has provided cash to expand the bike pool. Darlovelo is awaiting delivery of 18 bicycles from Pashley of Stratford upon Avon, and from bike shops Bobbins of London and Cycle Heaven of York.

Darlovelo is also now seeking a promotions officer to be based at Darlington Media Workshop, the home of Darlington Media Group, and will have access to a range of media facilities and skills to help with the task of promoting Darlovelo.
