French sports chain ramps up UK presence

Decathlon opens stores in Reading and Birmingham

Giant sports retail chain Decathlon is opening its third UK store this year, with new outlets in Reading and Birmingham.

The stores bring Decathlon’s UK portfolio up to ten stores, a small but growing number compared with France’s 243 Decathlon stores, Spain’s 76 and Italy’s 59.

The retailer opened a 40,000 sq ft store in Northern Ireland earlier this year.

The Reading store is set to open later this month (October 21st), while the Birmingham store will open its doors on November 18th.

According to local Reading site GetReading the new Berkshire store will create 30 jobs in the area and will be located in Forbury Retail Park.
