The idea for a velodrome in Derby was mooted in 2009 by Derby City Council; a construction company was appointed in August 2011; and now formal plans for the £20m complex have been submitted to the council.
The BBC reports that the velodrome – with a 250m track – is due to open in February 2014.
The arena, which will feature a velodrome, sports courts and a concert space, is to be built on land next to Pride Park football stadium.
Derby City Council’s plans also include an outside road course which will snake around a nature reserve.
The council’s planning committee is due to make a decision on the application in March, with work scheduled to start in June.
