At the Autosport International Show at the NEC this weekend Formula 1 racing driver Jenson Button will officially launch the EVD range of three Jenson pedelecs and three Jenson full suspension MTBs

F1 driver endorses electric and full suss bike range

Electric Vehicle Distribution International Ltd. (EVD for short) has created a range of electric bikes, a non-electric skate-scooter and a range of full suspension DH bikes branded with the Jenson name.

This is a fantastic coup. Getting Jenson on board will add glamour to being environmentally friendly, says Steve Loftus, MD of EVD.

Fellow EVD director Jem Marsh, a former racing driver, and Jenson Buttons father, John Button, have been friends for 25 years, hence the endorsement from Britains newest and youngest F1 star.

EVD believe theyll sell 20 000 electric bikes in Europe this year, most via IBDs and some via independent motorcycle dealers.

We will become the UKs largest distributor of electrically powered vehicles in 2001, says Loftus, who was one of the original team that launched Powabyke but left to found EVD in December 1999 with Marsh.

EVD has 550 IBD customers on its books. 230 have signed up to the new EVD Select Dealer Programme, a tiered incentive scheme.

As well as meeting some of their dealers at this weekends NEC show, EVD is also pencilled in for showing at the Cycle & Leisure Show to be held at the same venue in March. Further new bikes will be launched here, including a folding electric bike.

A new website www.evdinternational.com will also be up and running soon which will direct consumers to EVD dealers.
