VIDEO: Developed for hire bikes in Amsterdam, VelowSpace and VeloMinck come to the UK

Falco introduces ‘vending machine’ street cycle storage

Falco has developed two new cycle storage and parking systems designed to systematically park bicycles above or below ground.

Initially designed for Amsterdam and the Dutch Railways OC Fiets cycle hire scheme, Falco’s VelowSpace and VeloMinck use an advanced user identification system, take a bicycle from the cyclist, park it securely and return it back to the cyclist when required. The systems are unmanned and remotely monitored with lifetime support.

First up, the VelowSpace principle is based on a carrousel, in which 24 bikes are effectively parked with their front wheel in front. The bicycles are clamped into an in-house developed and patented front wheel clamp system. The system has a three-point lock that guarantees a stable and upright position for the bicycle. The VelowSpace can be used for rental bikes (as in Amsterdam) or personal bikes and is available in a standard version based on an aluminium support frame and polycarbonate panels or can be designed completely custom-made.

Meanwhile the VeloMinck automatically parks bicycles out of sight and safe against theft and vandalism. The cycle is taken from the user and transported to a secure storage space and retrieved as and when requested by the cyclist. As with the VelowSpace, the Velominck can be designed for indoor or outdoor use.

According to Falco, lthough each design has an internal standardised technical system, the possibilities with regards to design, choice of materials, colour combinations and housing are almost unlimited.
