After smashing target, shop is opening just half a mile from the old site

Following crowdfunding triumph, Brixton Cycles moves to new site

Brixton Cycles is to open its new shop this month, following a rollercoaster year for the co-operative.

Twelve months ago the retailer was told its then current location of Stockwell Road was under threat when the shop’s landlord submitted plans to build luxury flats on the site. Brixton Cycles was set up in 1983 and had been at the Stockwell Road location since 2001.

Later in the year the retailer launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise cash towards a new home. Within just five days the shop reached its £40,000 target and went on to raise £62,225 thanks to its supporters.

Now the shop has temporarily closed as it prepares its new store at 296-298 Brixton Road, SW9 6AG – approximately half a mile from the old shop location – and is to open this month.
