One will no doubt be amused to see bike event will have the UK's largest registered road closure for June's celebration

Great Manchester Cycle to see ‘biggest Diamond Jubilee street party’

The Great Manchester Cycle is gearing up to hold a huge Queen’s Diamond Jubilee street party on Monday June 4th.

The Daily Mirror Great Manchester Cycle will see thousands of cyclists take part, closing 13 miles of roads for the event including a stretch of Manchester’s busiest motorway – the Mancunian way.

The 13-mile fully closed circuit makes it the biggest registered closure for a street party in the UK during the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee weekend.

“The Daily Mirror Great Manchester Cycle is sure to be a highlight of Manchester’s Jubilee weekend," said Councillor Mike Amesbury, Manchester City Council’s executive member for culture and leisure. “It’s a great opportunity for cyclists to ride on car-free roads and with a 13-mile fully closed circuit it’s sure to be a great success with cyclists.”

Three distance route options are available based around the 13 mile closed road loop, catering for club cyclists and families alike: There’s Get Out and Pedal over 13 miles, Rule the Roads over 26 miles or Test Yourself over 52 miles.

Set over the four-day Jubilee weekend (June 2nd to 5th) the Great Manchester Cycle has been set up by Nova International to be part of a ‘Great’ festival of sport in Manchester this summer, which also features the Bupa Great Manchester Run and the British Gas Great Manchester Swim.
