GT is to launch a new platform of bikes targeted at what the Dorel-owned company calls the "increasingly important and fast growing urban commuter market."
The new GT Traffic series was partly inspired by UK urban riders, with the US product team from GT having spent time in several UK cities to study market trends and develop bikes with commute-friendly features.
Traffic series bikes feature GT's trademark triple triangle frame. All have rigid forks, rubber bumpers to prevent scratching when locked against a post, and reflective decals on the frame and sidewalls of Schwalbe Road Cruiser tyres.
Most models feature the Pinhead locking system to prevent components from being stolen. There are also seat mounted integrated rear lights.
Russell Merry, partner at UK distributor Hot Wheels, said: "The Traffic series is exactly what we needed from GT to further establish the brand as a 'full line' bike supplier. Our 2010 sell-in program is going great guns and the Traffic series is a sales highlight."
The GT Traffic series consists of four models ranging from £299.99 to £699.99.
"This is not the only new platform to come out of the CSG Bethel, Connecticut facility this year," said Merry.
"Dealers will be offered a broader range supported by a greater spend on engineering, and research and development."
