The FTSE 100 Index’s Europe committee decided promotions and demotions from the top 250 companies in the UK at its quarterly review meeting yesterday. The recently-floated Halfords was admitted to the second-tier of listed companies.

Halfords leapfrogs into footsie list

The FTSE 250 Index is the next best thing to being in the FTSE 100 index.

Alongside Halfords, the other new entrants were Virgin Mobile, and Premier Foods, which have all floated on the stock market in recent months.

Companies relegated from the FTSE 250 Index included car dealership Reg Vardy, and debt-laden Eurotunnel.
