ACT is calling the new focus "an assault on family cycling"

Halfords to create family cycling website

Halfords is to create a microsite spin-off from Halfords.com in order to promote family cycling.

In an email to members, ACT called the launch "an assault on family cycling."

Mark Brown of the ACT said the website will focus on "providing useful information to help families get out and ride together, including what bikes to choose, tips on learning to ride a bike plus family-friendly cycle routes."

The family cycling market is an important one, although not as sexy as selling high-end road bikes to ‘cycling is the new golf’ consumer.

However, if the Met Office’s prediction of a hot and dry summer comes true, families will be out on their bikes in droves, boosting sales in an already bumper year.

BikeBiz, of course, is always ahead of the trend. Executive editor Carlton Reid has written ‘Family Cycling’ for Snow Books of London. This was published last month.

Chapters from ‘Family Cycling’ can be previewed in page-flippy mode on Issuu.com, including the intro and a chapter on teaching a child to ride a bike. The book samplers have been viewed 14,000 times on Issuu.com.

The book costs £11.99 and is available from Snow Books. Trade orders can be placed via A&B, Littlehampton Book Services or a range of international book distributors.
