Bumper takings prompts Rent-a-Bike to donate to Livestrong charity

Local cycle hire firm trade boosted by Armstrong ride

Cycling fans weren’t the only ones to benefit from yesterday’s Lance Armstrong-led bike ride around Dublin, according to Independent.ie.

Dublin cycle hire firm Rent-a-Bike was named by Lance Armstrong in his Twitter feed shortly after he announced his impromptu ride around the Irish capital yesterday (Tuesday August 25th).

Rent-a-Bike, located where the ride set off at Phoenix Park, saw all of its 190 bikes snapped up on the day of the ride.

The shop’s Pat McQuaid said: "The phone was ringing seconds after his posting. I have 190 bikes for hire and by the end of the afternoon they were gone."

McQuaid generously donated the 10 euro bike hire fee to Lance Armstrong’s Livestrong Foundation.

Armstrong’s endorsement is not the hire stores first brush with celebrity either – pop sensation Beyonce Knowles recently paid Rent-a-Bike a visit.
