Pressure from local cyclists has led supermarket chain Sainsbury’s to adapt its plans to provide improved facilities for bike riding customers, as reported by Spalding Today.
Plans to extend an existing store in Spalding were delayed after local cycle action group Pedals objected, saying the proposals didn’t make sufficient provision for cyclists.
Pedals met with Sainsbury’s agent Claire Southam at South Holland District Council’s development control meeting last week.
Improved pedestrian and bicycle signage at key points, more cycle hoops – creating 36 bike parking spaces – and a dividing white line on selected paths will now be included at the expanded store following the assembly.
Southam said: "We hope these measures will address the concerns raised by Pedals at the last meeting."
