With 3500 forum postings a week, bikemagic.com is a busy place. Owner Magicalia has just secured its next level of VC funding and – in VC language – is seeking to leverage its brand. To this end a full time sales executive has been hired to sell bikemagic.com advertising and sponsorship deals

Magicalia ups the ante

BIKEmagic.com is claimed to be the UK’s largest cycling website. It is certainly the best funded.

And it’s growing at 6 percent a month. Its bi-weekly newsletter goes out to 18 542 cyclists. 20 percent of its members claim they never read any cycling magazines so bikemagic.com is one of their sole sources of bike-related info.

With committed, enthusiast readers, bikemagic.com believes it’s in a good position to make money from online advertising. The site doesn’t sell anything and its business model owes more to magazine publishing than e-tailing.

To up the site’s revenue Alex Hammond has been appointed as full time sales exec. Hammond spent the previous 14 months working for an e-mail marketing company who specialised in electronic B2B marketing.

One of his first sales tasks will be to sell the £900 sponsorship package for bikemagic’s emailed newsletter.
