Is this a trend yet? Condor has a 20-inch beauty. Giant has a 24-inch Jan Ullrich wannabe bike. Raleigh has joined the likes of Trek and Specialized in offering 'lightweight' children's bikes made from aluminium not oil pipeline tubes.

And, at Interbike, BikeBiz.com spotted even more upmarket mini machines, including a Lance Armstrong replica, a cute Pinarello and a Redline cyclo-cross bike for ten year olds. There are also scaled-down cruisers for kids, a great new learning bike, and the Sweet Pea from Dahon, a folding bike for children.

But is the fly-in-the-ointment the McKids bikes from the folks that bring us Ronald McDonald? Or does the new McKids bike range show that the food giant is warming to physical activities?

The KDR 1000 features an aluminum 43cm frame and fork, 24-inch wheels and a kid-sized mix of Shimano Sora and Tiagra 16-speed gears, plus Bontrager components.
