MPs slam UK government for half-hearted attempts to defuse obesity time-bomb

A report from a House of Commons cross party committee of MPs will be published on Thursday and, according to BBC Radio 4's Today news programme, the report will be scathing of the lack of joined-up government when it comes to tackling obesity. MPs criticise the Department for Transport for not doing more to encourage cycling and walking.

According to the BBC, seven government departments are criticised in the report, including the Department for Transport.

The DfT has allowed "pedestrians and cyclists to be swept aside during two generations of cities being reshaped to suit car drivers," said a report on the Today programme, citing a draft of the MP's report.
