‘The Trax’ – a new cycling club for north London – has launched.
Riders from the Lordship Recreation Ground, North London and beyond are being encouraged to sign up to the club which is currently free to join. All off-road disciplines will be catered for by the CTC affiliated club, including: mountain bikers, BMX riders, freeriders, downhill, dirt jump rider and more.
The Lordship Rec was the site of the first model bike track in the 1930s, has had a dirt BMX track in place since the 1980s and now boasts a freestyle BMX skate park.
In 2011 the Rec will see the creation of a brand new multi disciplined bike park. Haringey council is aimed to achieve a £2.5 million match funding to release a £4 million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund for the overhaul, set to create the first urban off road cycling centre of its kind for the local community. The new bike park will be built alongside a new city farm, eco centre and major regeneration and landscaping.
”At the Trax club we are taking off road cycling to urban settings and make it available to all regardless of their background, ability, gender or age,” said chairperson of The Trax Daniel Mintz. “Into the cities is a natural progression of where off road cycling needs to go. The Trax club is focused on creating a cycling infrastructure and community for Lordship Rec users which is open to all London cyclists to get more out of cycling in and around London and simultaneously form a base to make The Trax Bike Park of the future a success for all users.”
The club will meet on Saturdays for “tea and a slice of cake” before heading out for local rides or away day rides.
