“I have decided to return to college,” said Gershon.
“I started my first shop in 1984 (Two Wheels Good) in Leeds and expanded to three Freewheel shops (Leeds, Manchester and Sheffield). I took over Orbit Cycles in 1993.
“I’ve now closed my high-street shops and all operations are from one factory. Our turnover is around £1 million and I employ eight people.
“Twenty years in the cycle business is long enough for me, I need a change. I’m planning to study philosophy and psychology, and move to Scotland.”
The sale of the business would include both Gearshift mail-order and Orbit Cycles, and would require around £200,000 of capital for the stock.
“Our growth over the last two years has been in retail mail-order, and we now have a database of over 10 000 active acounts,” said Gershon.
“On the cycle side, we are probably the biggest supplier of tandems and touring bikes in the UK.”
