Peter and Anne Robinson opened Dorchester Cycles in 1988 and quickly built it into a thriving business

Peter Robinson RIP

In the 1990s Peter was voted in as president of the Association of Cycle Traders. With a deep booming voice and an infectious laugh he was able to command both attention and respect from his peers (controlling a bunch of bike shop owners in one room is much worse than herding cats).

During his presidency the ACT – via the tireless championing of Albert Shucksmith – created the CyTech mechanics’ accreditation scheme, long the gold standard for bicycle mechanics in the UK.

Peter was born in 1945 and passed away last Wednesday after a short battle with bowel cancer. His last days were spent in the Joseph Weld Hospice in Dorchester and in lieu of flowers the Robinson family have suggested donations to this hospice, which can be arranged through Cotton and Sons Funeral Directors, Weymouth.
