Personnel from RAF Waddington and Cobham Aviation are gearing up for a gruelling 220 mile cycle ride in aid of the Macular Disease Society.

Training is well under way for the event which takes place from June 23-25 and will cover the distance from RAF Waddington to Cobham Aviation’s main hub at Bournemouth Airport.

Team spokesman, Corporal Matthew Cocking (33) of RAF Waddington, said: "My sister was diagnosed with a rare form of Macular Disease which stole the sight from one eye. Intervention by the Macular Disease Society meant that she was able to have pioneering treatment to save her other eye. Unfortunately little is known about this horrific disease and the Society desperately needs funds to help more people."

The eight-strong team already have the backing of corporate sponsors Cobham Aviation, SKS who have provided race guards, mini pumps and multi tool for each rider, Endura and Bloc along with Lincoln company FH Energy, but desperately need personal pledges to make the ride a success.
