Bicycle unit sales in the US are at their lowest point for 11 years, according to this report from Bike Europe.

Bike sales plunged 30.8 per cent in Q1 2009 compared to the same period last year in the United States. The country also imported 1.1 million less bicycles in the period.

The level of units sold in America is now at it’s lowest in 11 years for the first quarter of a year, according to the report. In the first three months of 2009, unit sales reached 2,598,793 – compared with the previous Q1 unit sales of 3,755,228.

But while the number of sales was down, the average value of bikes sold increased significantly by 37.2 per cent in the first quarter.
