RidewithGPS guidance offered by Headwater cycle holiday company

Cycle holiday company Headwater is now offering customers the option to be guided on routes via turn-by-turn navigation downloadable to smartphones. The routes have been uploaded to navigation service RidewithGPS, and are available for 22 of Headwater’s self-guided European cycling holidays.

Since its creation in 1985 Headwater has provided customers with detailed maps and meticulously researched – and regularly checked – route directions.

Headwater MD Tina James said:

"We needed to see whether we could introduce any degree of technology into our cycling programme without compromising either on the quality of information or the overall outdoors experience. After extensive research, we signed up to the RidewithGPS navigation system. Using this technology, we have created e-versions of our cycling notes that, in a few simple steps, Headwater customers will be able to download to their smartphone or other GPS device."

Once downloaded, routes will be available offline so no need to worry about telephone signals or expensive data roaming charges.

James added: "For customers who prefer our traditional paper maps and notes, we will of course continue to provide these both as an alternative and back up option."
