Rolex calls for entries to its Award for Enterprise

This is a competition held every two years. One of the winners in 2000 was David Schweidenback of Pedals for Progress, the US equivalent of Merlin Matthews of Re-Cycle, the charity that ships bikes out to the Developing World. The five winners get $100 000 and a gold Rolex chronometer watch each.

The categories are: science and medicine; technology and innovation; exploration and discovery; and environmental and cultural heritage.

So, if you know any cycle-touring doctor inventors who like hugging trees, tell them to enter.

Entries for the 2004 Rolex Awards need to be in by September 30th, 2003.

For the 2002 awards, Rolex received 1300 entries from 113 countries. Five award winners walk of with the booty. So, whilst the odds are high, they are not insurmountable.
