Roadies and MTBers looking for high-quality topo mapping on a GPS unit for France and Germany will be interested in the latest additions the Satmap catalogue. The British GPS company has added French IGN maps and German Alpine Club maps.

IGN is the French equivalent of the UK’s Ordnance Survey. The maps are available on SD cards for 21 regions at a 1:50k scale. The RRP is £54.99 each.

The German Alpine Club maps (DAV) are considered to be the best maps of the key resorts across the whole of the Alps. Satmap is the only GPS company in the world with DAV mapping. This is contained on one SD card which contains 35 maps at 1:25k scale. The RRP is £89.99.

Satmap already has Austrian and Swiss maps.

Founded in 2005, Satmap Systems Ltd. is based in Surrey and is backed by a consortium of private investors. The company’s first product, the Active 10 GPS unit, was launched in 2007.
