Satmap launches Active 10 Plus

The UK’s Satmap Systems produces the SatMap Active 10 GPS device, designed for walkers and cyclists. The new Active 10 Plus has an RRP of £379.99.

Richard Calthrop-Owen, Managing Director for Satmap Systems, said: “We’ve been listening to our customers and this offering has been put together based on their feedback. With the Active 10 Plus customers have everything they need to get started – our latest software, a variety of power options and free access to the Route Planner and Route Share Network."

There is no difference between the performance of the Active 10 and Active 10 Plus, which incorporate the same technology. However, there are two features which differ: the Active 10 Plus comes with a World Base Map and postcode look-up functionality, neither of which is included in the Active 10.

The availability of a World Base Map signals the company’s launch into selling European mapping. The Active 10 is already available in the Netherlands and Norway and Ordnance Survey equivalent maps for these and other Western European countries will be available for all customers to purchase by Easter, said Calthrop-Owen.

The postcode look-up works on any UK map. From the routes menu Active 10 Plus users can select GoTo by grid reference or postcode. Due to the licensing requirements the postcode look-up option cannot be retrofitted on the Active 10 and is only available on the Active 10 Plus.

The Active 10 Plus offers two power options: AA alkaline batteries or the rechargeable Lithium Polymer battery offering a longer battery life and lower operating costs.

SatMap offers an update service for those Active 10 owners who would like to have the 1:5 million World Base Map. This service costs £39.99 plus postage and would suit anyone who plans to use their Active 10 abroad and wants to use the 1:5 million scale in conjunction with the local area topographical mapping. The World Base map is optional and not a requirement for using the unit outside of Great Britain.
