Sixty of Scotland's finest cycling talents will take to the road for the Arthur Campbell Memorial Road Race on Saturday June 26th.

The race is now in its third year, created as a tribute to Glasgow-born Arthur Campbell MBE. Campbell died in June 2007 after years of advocating cycling. The former British Cycling Federation president was the longest serving president of the Scottish Cyclist Union (32 years) and helped establish road racing in the UK, while also being a member of the UCI technical committee for over a decade. He joined the Glasgow Wheelers Cycling Club in the '30s, remaining a member until he died.

The 85-mile race takes place around the A77 circuit, between Newton Mearns ans Stewarton, with the race HQ in the Malletsheugh Inn.

David Lang from Glasgow Wheelers Cycle Club comments: "This year it’s a very tough course which can only produce a proper champion and is therefore a fitting tribute to this great man who contributed so much to this Club and this nation's cycling tradition."

Gore Bike Wear is backing the race this year. The firm's Jonathan Bell said: "Since April this year we have been working in partnership with Scotland’s leading bike retailer Alpine Bikes to support Glasgow Wheelers Cycling Club, one of Scotland’s oldest and most successful cycling clubs. The far reaching influence of Arthur Campbell’s life long work to promote the sport of cycling is phenomemal and we are proud to be associated with this high profile event."

The race starts at 10am, with the winner presented with the Arthur Campbell Memorial Trophy by his daughter, Isla Bilsland at 2.30pm at the Malletsheugh Inn, Newton Mearns.
