Operating income for bicycle business increases 91.8 per cent

Shimano first half bicycle segment sales up nearly 20 per cent

Despite a sluggish start to the year, Shimano has reported a 19.8 per cent increase in sales for the first half year in its cycle division.

Poor weather across the Northern Hemisphere through the early months of 2010 meant that January and February were poor months, though have been redeemed since thanks to a pleasant summer in Europe and North America.

In terms of OEM business, worldwide distribution inventories of bicycles were around normal levels and shipments from Shimano exceeded the levels initially planned.

Shimano’s new products, namely, the 105 series for road bike components and Deore XT and SLX for mountain
bike components, were well received and order-taking for these new products was brisk.

As a result, sales from this segment increased 19.8 per cent from the same period of the previous year to 81,596 million Yen and operating income increased 91.8 per cent to 15,967 million yen.
