The Forestry Commission of Scotland is inviting tenders from track and jump specialists to design and build the Bike Pump Track feature within the Cuningar Loop’s proposed Activity Zone.
Cuningar Loop is a £5.7 million project that looking to transform 15 hectares of derelict land on the banks of the River Clyde into an attractive woodland park.
The Bike Pump Track will form one of the key features in the new Activity Zone. Other features will include adventure play, a bouldering facility and trim trail, which will be supported by a network of trails around the site.
With a unique shape, the loop will enable two types of track to be developed, suitable for mountain biking, BMX and jump bikes, accommodating entry-level and skilled users. Cycling Scotland is to provide an advisory role throughout the development.
Funded for the development has now been put aside by both the Commission and sportscotland. This project is one of over 100 projects set to benefit from sportscotland’s Legacy 2014 Active Places Fund that aims to encourage more people of all ages and abilities to become involved in sport and physical activity.
Forestry Commission Scotland project manager for Cuningar Loop, Joneen Clarke commented: “We’re very excited about being awarded the funding to develop the Bike Pump Track feature. We’re inviting tender submissions from bike track and jump park specialists to provide up to three designs for individual sections, a beginners trail and an experienced trail with space for bike racks and a shelter.
“We want to create a first class Bike Pump Track that will benefit local communities and attract cyclists from the wider area. Our aspiration is for Cuningar Loop to become a cycling destination.”
Located opposite to the Glasgow 2014 athletes’ village, the new woodland park will be open to the public in spring 2015. It is a significant Legacy 2014 project, which aims to attract over 100,000 visitors by 2021.
Major redevelopment of the site is underway with 15,000 trees, 30,000 shrubs, 40,000 bulbs and meadow grass due to be planted along with the Activity Zone, a path network, picnic areas and an amphitheatre for outdoor learning.

A site visit will take place on 17th July and the submission date for returned tenders is 27th July. The total budget for this development is £121,500 with a start date of 1st October and completion by 6th March 2015.
