Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland and the Highland Council have announced that the 2016 International Mountain Bike Conference will take place in the Scottish Highlands.
Titled ‘The Innovation Edition’, the 3 day conference that takes place from 17th to 19th November will promote and highlight innovations in mountain biking and how they will help mountain biking progress both in Scotland and internationally.
The Conference will also showcase and discuss the contribution of mountain biking in Scotland to social and environmental objectives and sustainable economic development. It is proposed that the conference will be a key event in a week of Outdoor Tourism in Scotland.
Colin Simpson, Principle Tourism Officer, Highland Council, said “Highland Council are delighted to be able to host the 2016 Conference. The Highland area is recognised as one of the premiere destinations for mountain biking in Scotland with such a wide variety of both built trails and natural routes. Many of these trails are in areas recognised as being amongst the most scenic in the UK.
"We also cater for all levels of experience from easy family rides such as those along the Caledonian Canal or the Old Logging Way near Aviemore, to dedicated downhill and multi day wilderness rides for advanced riders. With the area’s combination of attractions, its mountain biking credentials and the level of support available from partners, we are confident that the Highlands will deliver an exceptional conference.”
Graeme McLean, project manager of DMBinS, a partnership project based within Scottish Cycling, said “We are excited to be working in partnership with Highland Council to deliver the second international mountain bike conference to be held in Scotland.
"In this year of Innovation, Architecture and Design, the speakers and workshops will focus on recent innovations in mountain biking and highlight how they will help mountain biking progress not only in Scotland, but internationally as well.”
It is expected that the conference will attract around 200-250 delegates from Scotland, the rest of the UK and internationally. The delegates are likely to work directly in mountain biking or in a field which encompasses mountain biking including: tourism businesses, land managers, local authorities, public sector agencies, cycling organisations, academics.
