"This really puts that into perspective, doesn't it?"

Those are the words of Cycling Australia CEO Graham Fredericks comparing a spat over doping allegations to the death of one of Australia's top women cyclists in Germany. Amy Gillett was killed outright by an "out of control" 18-year old driver, with five members of Gillett's team hospitalised. Cyclingnews.com said this was "unparalled destruction among a cycling team."

Condolences go out to Amy Gillett's family and friends, and our thoughts are with the injured riders, Alexis Rhode, Lousie Yaxley, Katie Brown, Lorian Graham and Katie Nichols - in a "satisfactory" condition. Had severe deep tissue damage including torn tendons, but again, surgery was considered successful.

Amy Gillett - deceased.

Cycling Australia's Fredericks Fredericks said the tragedy will have a major affect on the AIS women's cycling program,

"It goes without saying the program will be wound-down as our focus turns to the athletes' well-being," he said at a press conference held at the Dunc Gray Velodrome in Sydney.
