Thunderbirds are go

The shy and retiring Toby Howes, head of product design at Ridgeback, reckons the £169 retro Thunderbird chopper-style bike will be a big seller this Christmas. It was launched at the Cycle and Leisure Roadshow at Sandown racecourse

The steel, 13-inch framed singlespeed Thunderbird is available in two colours, comes with a free Frisbee and oozes retro chic, said Howes.

It's based on a 1965 Schwinn Orangekrate, complete with ape-hanger bars, adjustable banana seat, and Ashtabula-style flat-bladed fork. There's a canti brake on the front and a coaster brake for the back.

Howes - who has ten headshots in the 18-page Ridgeback catalogue - believes the Thunderbird will be a good, niche seller. He predicts the first batch will go quickly into 'stock out'.
