Tyler's Tornadoes is the programme for children aged 10-13.
"The good sportsmanship, dedication and teamwork Tyler Hamilton shows every time he competes are traits that he would like to help encourage in young cyclists today," said Deirdre Moynihan, executive director of the Tyler
"Tyler's Tough Tykes will introduce kids to the sport of cycling through quarterly newsletters from Tyler and by becoming involved in events organized especially for them. It's a great way to have kids become involved in a positive, healthy activity while helping others."
Tyler's Tough Tykes will receive a beginner's packet when they join the programme. The packet contains a personal welcome letter from Tyler Hamilton outlining the programme, a certificate and a Tyler's Tough Tykes helmet sticker, as well as reflective stickers and lock brochures from Kryptonite.
"Kryptonite knows that every child, whether they grow up to be a professional cyclist or recreational rider, needs to be taught good practices on and off the bike," said Tom Fowler, Kryptonite's business director, Action Sports.
"Through Tyler's Tough Tykes, Kryptonite and the Tyler Hamilton Foundation introduce kids to bike safety, security and proper cycling techniques from one of the top professional cyclists today. With Tyler's words of wisdom and encouragement and Kryptonite's security tips, Tyler's Tough Tykes will learn information that will stay with them
for a lifetime of safe riding while keeping their bikes secure."
Tyler's Tough Tykes will receive a quarterly newsletter with pointers from Tyler, news from Tugboat (Tyler's dog), safety and security tips.. The members will also receive a Tyler's Tough Tykes t-shirt. Membership is $15 for a year.
The Tyler Hamilton Foundation is dedicated to individuals diagnosed with multiple sclerosis so that they may maintain a high quality of life while dealing with the daily complications of this disease and to MS research that is critical to finding a cure. The Tyler Hamilton Foundation is dedicated to paving the road for aspiring young cyclists who do not have the opportunities that were provided to Tyler as he began his career.
