The Viking Maelstrom MTB featues a full alloy frame-set with replaceable rear drop-out. Finished with Shimano Acera kit with Viking branding, the bike has certainly got the look of more expensive bikes, but at a trade price of just £119 and no RRP set, IBDs could make a fair whack on these bikes if they chose to make 30+ percent margin.
Moving up range, the fully suspended Mantra with cable discs front and rear, fully alloy frameset (including the rear traingle, usually one of the first places to see steel at this price range), plus Viking-branded Shimano 24 speed Italia drivetrain has a trade price of just £225.
The MTB range is assembled in the UK with the road and commuter bikes being assembled in Taiwan. Concept is looking for 200 dealers who, said Wayne Clark, would
be assured of a protected sales area.
The Viking brand name for bikes has been knocking around for 100+ years. It was first resurrected in recent times from Ireland two years ago but the company producing the bikes went belly-up. Concept then bought the brand name last year. In the 1950s Viking had a well-known road race team. One of the star riders an Olympic champion to boot was Concepts Bill Holmes!
