Where's the stats, man?
A top-end supplier has just rang up and asked us to modify upwards, natch the number of bikes his company shifted last year. Access the change via our cycling statistics hyperlink. Were not going to say which brand we modified because we want suppliers to check their own figures and get back to us with any changes.
By the way, the top-end brand in question isnt part of the BA/Mintel round-up. Why? Theyve never been asked! Sure, theyre not a member of the BA but quite a few top brands arent. If the stats only include BA members how relevant are they?
They never get published anyway (er, except in BikeBike issue 1 where our guesses were, in fact, somewhat more educated than we let on) but those brands that do subscribe to them still dont have a very full picture.
Most industries consider a publically-available production and sales figures service to be a fairly standard requirement from their representative body. So, heres an open question to them, whats the BA planning to do about this shortfall in the stats service?
