Xdream creates World Indoor MTB Championships

Greg Minnaar, the three time downhill world cup champion was crowned the inaugural Xdream Indoor Mountain Bike World Champion at Bike Radar Live at the weekend. Xdream uses indoor spinning MTBs hooked up to computer screens to simulate off-road riding.

The technology was developed by Trixter, first featured on BikeBiz.com in 2003.

Minnaar beat off stiff competition from some of the world’s finest riders including Steve Peat, Gee Atherton and former track hour record world record holder Graham Obree.

The event was sponsored by Trixter, Race Face, Mountain Bike World and Bike Radar Live. It will be televised on Sky Sports next month and was hosted by former world BMX champion Scott Beaumont, who has used Trixter bikes in his training.

The races consisted of three riders on identical bikes racing head to head on a virtual parkland course with the winner automatically progressing to the next stage.

Minnaar said: “It was great fun and such a great buzz with the crowd so close to the action.”
