Graham Titchener has been named as the new manager of the Cycling City York scheme.
According to this report in the Yorkshire Times, Titchener has joined the City’s Council to manage its share of the £90m allocated by the government to encourage cycling. York is entitled to a slice of the cash – approximately £3.68m – after being named as one of the 12 towns and cities across England to take part in City Cycling, which aims to encourage 2.5 million to get on their bike.
As part of his new role, Titchener will tackle York’s cycle theft rate – almost four a day in 2006/2007 – as well as school-based cycle training and after school biking activities.
"My goal is to bring about an even greater increase in cycling, both for commuting to and from places of work and education, and leisure," stated Titchener.
