Retro sponsors to support the Tour Classic

Tour Classic organiser Golazo Cycling has announced a new partnership with The Light Blue and Pella which will see both companies supplying prizes and merchandise for participants.

The event for bikes made pre-1987– or current models built to the same specifications – is a first in the UK as it is on closed roads and in a Gran Fondo format.

The Light Blue bicycle company originally started in 1895 in Cambridge making bikes for the city’s university students. Production ceased around the outbreak of WW1, but in 2006 Ison Distribution’S Lloyd Townsend resurrected the brand with an initial focus on supplying city bikes.

Pella Sportswear offers an extensive range of custom clothing, while its range of retro inspired cycle clothing lines with worldwide brands ensures their continued success.

Malcolm Smith from Golazo said: “Both The Light Blue and Pella are perfect partners for us as they hold strong connections with the past, but with modern production values. In the same way we are bringing an event to people where they can appreciate classic bikes in an arrangement with all the usual production values of a modern world class event.”

The Light Blue brand manager Steve Clarke added: “We are pleased to come on board as sponsor of the Tour Classic events and we look forward to seeing it grow in the coming years. We see our retro bikes as a great fit with the Tour Classic. They might be new bikes, but they meet the criteria and with their authentic retro styling and features are very much in the spirit of these retro events. I think our strapline steel is real aptly sums up The Light Blue.”

Pella UK distributor Rosa Sport owner Ben Higgins concluded: “We are very excited to be involved as a sponsor of the Tour Classic and we look forward to the growth of these fantastic events in the future. We believe our traditional handmade wool jerseys and retro clothing from Pella complimented the essence of the Tour Classic events.”
