The meeting has been granted a £188 000 National Lottery Award from UK Sport. It also has the support of Manchester City Council, British Cycling and the Manchester Evening News.
The three-day Manchester international track meeting will feature riders from 40 nations, with all of the top national teams confirmed to be present. BBC Television is to provide live coverage.
Councillor Richard Leese, leader of Manchester City Council, said:
"We are really pleased that Manchester has won the right to host the UCI Track Cycling World Cup. It builds on the success of the Commonwealth Games last year and will greatly help the National Track Cycling Team who are based at the City’s world class Velodrome."
David Walker, marketing operations and media controller of Kellogg’s, said:
"Kellogg’s are happy to be supporting this Manchester initiative. Manchester and the North West is our home in the UK and we are delighted to be involved with this major event."
John Scott, director of major events at UK Sport – the organization responsible for co-ordinating major sporting events in the UK – said:
"UK Sport is delighted to be able to support the event with a Lottery award of up to £188,000 from our World Class Events Programme. The UCI Track Cycling World Cup is a significant event on the sport’s calendar and it will give us the perfect opportunity to showcase Manchester’s Velodrome to a global audience.
"Staging major events in the UK brings a number of benefits, not least the chance for British riders to compete in front of packed home crowds at a crucial stage in the Olympic qualification process. Manchester will also be able to rely on the vast amount of experience and expertise that exists in the region following the Commonwealth Games last summer."
