East Midlands bicycle retailer Rutland Cycling was awarded Business of the Year at the Rutland and Stamford Mercury Business Awards.
Continued sales growth in the face of testing financial conditions and a strong online offering were among the reasons given by the judges for the award. Free bikes for police constables, a significant Cycle to Work offering and value for money were other key reasons for the top accolade.
The judges also mentioned the stores community involvement as a significant factor behind the win.
"We pride ourselves on offering a friendly environment where our staff can ensure that our customers are served to the highest standards,” said sales director Steve Gill.
“Although we have grown to be one of the biggest cycle retailers in the UK we have still maintained our core values of good customer service and competitive prices. Our aim was to simply get here on the night – I don’t think any of us really expected to win. The competition was so high and to the main award is just unbelievable.”
Employing more than 60 people, Rutland Cycles has expanded to four retail sites, covering a range of outdoor activities and a distribution centre.
