National grocer Sainsbury’s is launching a Cycle to Work initiative, set to affect 150,000 staff colleagues.
Employees at over 850 locations in the UK will be able to benefit from the initiative, where Sainsbury’s will fund the upfront costs of the bike a safety equipment. Staff will then pay the hire amounts periodically from their gross pay and at the end of the hire agreement period colleagues will have the opportunity to buy the bike at market value.
Sainsbury’s will be working with Cyclescheme, so store and depot staff will be have the chance to get their Cycle to Work bike from over 1,500 locations in the UK, helping to support local independent bike retailers, according to the chain.
“This is a fantastic new initiative that will not only help keep our colleagues fit and healthy but will also really benefit the environment,” enthused Sainsbury’s Retail and Logistics director Roger Burnley. “We know from initial feedback that colleagues are already enthusiastic about the scheme and we hope that thousands will take up this excellent opportunity.”
Sainsbury’s said it has introduced the scheme as part of a ‘Great Place to Work’ drive across its workplaces.
