In aid of the Movember, Santander hire bikes in London will this month don moustaches, with social media shares resulting in a donation by the banking group to the chairty effort.
Using the #mocycle hashtag, those hiring the bikes can post their ride to either Twitter or Instagram, prompting the bank to donate £1 to the Movember Foundation – a charity set up with the hopes of making a dent in the progress made toward curing prostate cancer, testicular cancer, poor mental health and physical inactivity in men. The charity has this year also launched a ‘MOVE’ campaign, encouraging peopel to commit to 30 days of exercise.
Pictures of one of the 200 limited edition gold moustaches adorned to hire bikes will each earn a donation of £3.
Users can benefit too, with spot prizes, including Movember baseball caps signed by Rory McIllroy and free hire codes awarded to participants throughout the month. Winners will be chosen at random from all photographs submitted.
Keith Moor, Chief Marketing Officer of Santander says: “We hope people will have a bit of fun spotting the moustaches and sharing their pictures, whilst at the same time raising funds and awareness for Movember. We’re encouraging everyone on the streets of London to look out for the Santander Cycles sporting a #MoCycle, share their photos and help raise funds for this great cause.”
Laura Mair for Movember added: “This is a fantastic initiative which really brings to life what we are trying to achieve with our MOVE challenge and we are very grateful to Santander and TfL for their support. Being active is one of the best things you can do for your health, and building even just a short cycle ride into your daily activity will help. We hope that seeing a Santander Cycle with a Mo will prompt people to think what activity they could add to their day, and of course, to share on social media to raise funds.”
